When Oxfordshire Careers Hub approached us to tell the inspiring story of Joshua Read-Strahan, we knew this was an opportunity to show how video can connect people to real, impactful narratives. Joshua’s journey – from facing challenges at school to becoming ‘Apprentice of the Year’ – is a brilliant example of how apprenticeships can change lives.
The Challenge
The Oxfordshire Careers Hub wanted a film that would not only celebrate Joshua’s achievements but also highlight the importance of apprenticeships in shaping future careers. We were thrilled to partner with them on a project rooted in our community and focused on making a difference.
Joshua’s path wasn’t easy. He faced learning challenges during his school years, but his passion for sport and the support he received led him to an apprenticeship with Ignite Sport UK. This opportunity helped him gain essential skills, qualifications, and confidence. In 2023, his dedication earned him the prestigious ‘Apprentice of the Year’ award. Today, Joshua is sharing his love of teaching and inspiring young people by speaking about his journey at local schools (including his own!)
Managing The Production
To bring Joshua’s story to life, we worked closely with the Oxfordshire Careers Hub team to understand their vision. The result was a documentary-style film that showcases his remarkable journey and the impact of apprenticeships. Here’s how we approached it:
- Strategic Planning: We collaborated with the Careers Hub to align on key messages and create a narrative that would resonate with both young people and businesses.
- Filming: Our team conducted heartfelt interviews with Joshua, his colleagues at Ignite Sport, and his former teachers. We also captured vibrant B-roll footage of Joshua teaching, receiving his award, and engaging in his passion for sport.
- Post-Production: By combining interviews, motion graphics, and dynamic visuals, we crafted a film that’s both visually engaging and emotionally powerful.
